IMS Evolve Founding Member of EdgeX Foundry Project

IHS forecasts that the Internet of Things (IoT) market will grow from an installed base of 15.4 billion devices in 2015 to 30.7 billion devices in 2020 and 75.4 billion in 2025. It is already assisting many businesses in adding value and meeting goals; improving efficiencies and increasing revenue through automation and analytics. However, as IoT continues to mature, greater levels of interoperability, security and flexibility are required to ensure customers benefit from true business value of deployments industry-wide.

Today at Hannover Messe, The Linux Foundation is announcing the launch of the EdgeX Foundry project, which has, at its heart, the aim of creating a common framework for IoT edge computing that will drive interoperability between applications and connectivity standards. It is building a community of companies offering plug-and-play components that can be combined to quickly create easily scalable, secure IoT solutions. At IMS Evolve, we are committed to providing ever more flexible routes for customers to leverage IoT and add value to their core business purposes. To do so, greater collaboration across the industry is an exciting and necessary prospect, which we are delighted to help establish as a founding member of the EdgeX Foundry.

Legacy infrastructure is a fundamental part of achieving this, but standardising the presentation of its data is a challenge for many IoT projects. IMS Evolve is an established and global platform that presents businesses with the ability to tap into and integrate available data across all components of legacy machines, aligning the elements to directly address strategic aims of the customer. We are looking forward to working with the wider industry through the EdgeX project to drive IoT forward with an emphasis on interoperability, flexibility and security.
